What is Public Relations?

As defined by the Public Relations Society of America, Inc. (PRSA), public relations is a strategic communication process that builds mutually beneficial relationships between organizations and their publics.

Public Relations is also the maintenance and/or management of a favorable public image of an individual, company, organization and/or related entity.

We often times like to refer to Public Relations as the bridge between the client and an audience that holds and distributes information to be shared, marketed, or advertised.

What is a Publicist?

A Publicist is a person whose role is to generate and gain media attention for a specific client. The role of a Publicist also includes generating goodwill, manage and create brand awareness and to manage publicity for the clients they represent.

Playfully, we sometimes like to refer to us Publicists as "PR girls" or "PR guys." Often times, the general audience will get confused and call Publicists "a PR" which is incorrect. Overall, the correct name for a Publicist is simply that; a Publicist.

What is the difference between marketing and public relations?

When utilizing marketing, there is more focus on selling and promotions for a specific product and/or service. In terms of public relations, the main priority is maintaining a positive brand image and attracting media/audience attention (gaining publicity) for a specific product, service, company, organization and/or individual.
